Cell Phone Movie
This guide will show you how to put full
length movies and TV shows on your cell phone for free.

Dumb and Dumber playing on Samsung A950
1.
Introduction
Nowadays, cell phones with multimedia capability are becoming more and
more common. These phones can play your mp3 collection, but what most
people don't know is that they can also play full-length video. That
even includes full length movies! Assuming you have all the right stuff,
you can put video files on your cell phone for free. The trick is to
make your phone think that your video file is a giant FLIX message.
Let's begin!
2. Required Equipment
-Cell Phone with a microSD/miniSD slot
-microSD
(transflash) or miniSD
card and included SD adapter
-SD
Card Reader for your computer or your phone's USB
cable and drivers
3. Prepare Media into MPG Format
In this step we'll find some video content
and convert it into MPG format. If you already have a video in MPG format,
you can skip this step. Else, look at one of the below subpages for
instructions.
Convert
DVDs into MPG Format
Convert videos from Youtube into MPG
Format
4. Convert MPG files to 3GP Cell Phone Format
Once you have a MPG format of your video, we can convert that
into a special format cell phones can read called '3GP'. To do this,
we'll use a program called Nokia Multimedia Converter. The program is
free, however it is required that you go through a process. It is quite
difficult to sign up for an account and get a serial key, but I assure
the program is top-notch.
a. Install Nokia Multimedia
Convertor
1) Sign
up for free account on Forum Nokia
2) Check your email and activate your membership by clicking the link
3) Download
Nokia Multimedia Converter (you'll have to log in)
4) Request
a Serial Key
5) Check your email and take note of the serial key
6) Run setup.exe - you'll need to fill in your forum username and serial
key
b. Use Nokia Multimedia Convertor
to convert MPG to 3GP
Once you have Nokia Multimedia Converter
installed, click the icon near the top left of the program that looks
like a folder. Browse for the mpg file that we made earlier. Once you
have it, click "Convert...". This will process your video,
and takes about an hour for a full movie. Once it's done, click the
floppy disk icon to save your movie in .3gp format. There will be some
waiting time here too, but not as bad as before. Now you have your video
in a format cell phones can read. Good job for making it this far!!
5. Copy 3GP Video onto your phone's
card
Now all we need to do is put that 3GP
file we just made on to your phone. The process is similiar to how you
would put mp3's on your phone. Using the adapter, put the miniSD/microSD
card into your computer's SD card reader. Put the 3GP file on to memory
card, in the MY_FLIX folder (if it exists).
If you dont have a SD card reader or the
adapter that came with your memory card, you can use your phone's USB
cable to transfer the movie onto your phone (a memory card inside your
phone is still required). However, you'll need special drivers (eg.
Music Essentials Kit) to do that.
6. Access the Video
in your Phone
You'll need to go to the media player in your phone,
or the My Videos/My FLIX section. This will be different on all phones,
but it shouldnt be too hard to look for. Another tip is to access your
camcorder, and go to your saved Videos. If the video is long, it may
take a while to load, but in most cases the video should load fairly
quickly.
Once the video starts, enjoy!!!
Tips and Troubleshooting
-IPOD Video Podcasts are great source of content.
These should encode just fine in Nokia Multimedia Converter, but when
you open them, you'll need to select 'All' for file types. Contary to
what you might think, they will encode fine.
